At RMA Institute, Japanese artist Soichiro Shimizu merges sculpture with photography to explore "the linger- ing divinity" in the trees in "Kalopsia". Using foil paper, Shimizu folded the intricate shapes of tree roots before taking photographs of his temporary sculptural works.Having lived in Thailand for more than a decade. the subject
he chose shows his deep understanding of Thai beliefs about spirituality and superstition concern- ing trees. The technique chosen, of simultaneously showing and hiding the shapes of tree roots. pre- sents rather well the ongoing clash and confusion of beliefs between the old and new generations.
